The transformation of the zone map destabilizes the fragile balance of power in the zone. At maximum abnormal activity, the unstable zone continues to tremble with outbreaks. Stalkers and expeditions die or end up isolated in the lost territories. An immense explosion of anomalous energy is transforming the zone: the once reliable and relatively safe roads are no longer so, the landscape is being wiped clean by eruptions of anomalies, and previously unknown areas appear on the zone map. A group of stalkers reach the heart of the zone for the first time – the Chernobyl nuclear power plant – and trigger a disaster on the verge of a disaster. STALKER: Clear Sky is set in 2011, a year before the events of the original STALKER game.
